Nutrinopets is broke
Nutrinopets has been opened since 2002 according to their copyright information. Nutrinopets’ ownership has recently posted a new news post with the following “Update: The amount of lost site revenue due to cheaters is so signifigant, NuP may not be able to function much longer without your help. ” Why lie Nutrinopets? Nutrinopets is your job - you guys can afford your living expenses with the amount of revenue generated from Nutrinopets.
Another quote from their news:
Firstly, by duping them, you are taking away money that Nutrinopets needs to stay alive. If users already have the donation items, which were duped, nobody will need to donate for the items anymore and Nutrinopets will have to close.
Nutrinopets will have to close? That’s funny.
If you’re going to lie to the community, then do it right. You guys can easily afford your $250 server bill to keep Nutrinopets running, but if you can’t, then stop buying junk food from the corner store. We don’t want lies, we want the truth. We’re aware of all the bullcrap that you guys have pulled in the recent months from not paying Haywire for coding for you guys and everything else. The history of Nutrinopets is simple, you guys are thieves.
Whatever happened to the other version of Nutrinopets? Why weren’t the users informated of what happened to nutrinopets in the past? That’s because you guys are using Nutrinopets as a cash cow and not providing the community with quality updates, such as; features, but instead you’re always begging users to donate. Don’t do it, you’ll lose your paypal account if you continue to do so. Donations are simple, yes, but don’t cry to your users if something fucks up on your end.
If you guys are so broke, then why don’t you learn how to monetize your virtual pet site? If Nutrinopets isn’t generating any income for you guys to keep the site running, then its your own fault. Learn how to monetize your virtual pet site. We have been in this community for so long and Nutrinopets brings shame to our community.
This is not a “NuP doesn’t make enough money to live so we have to get normal jobs and work on NuP at night” issue, it’s a “NuP will no longer make money to keep it online.” issue.
No, it’s an issue with you guys being stupid. Learn how to monetize the game and not beg users for donations. Want people to donate? Don’t beg. Learn to play the game. Users will donate if they actually want to support your pet site - not because you beg for donations. How about you just tell your users
“OMG. THE OWNER GOT IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND NEEDS $50,000 TO PAY THE HOSPITAL BILLS”.
That sounds like what you’re trying to do, Nutrinopets. Stop telling lies. It’s not nice.

Hosting: Undisclosed, more than $100, less than $1500 / month. Only ONE server, mind, and a powerful one at that.
Art: Averages $500/mo
Programming: Averages $1200/mo (There ARE more than just me)
Maintenance: $200/mo (All me, I’m the Linux server admin! We don’t outsource it!)
Keeping my family cared for so I and my wife can dedicate our time to NuP: $2200-$2800

I completely agree NuP has failed to provide any new features for months. Instead, they keep feeding users empty promises of V2 pets and arenas…
There’s always some new excuse for needing more donations.
I could tell they were hard up for cash when the “god” of NuP made an appearance on the forums after 4 months of hibernation just to post some rediculous nonsense dribble.

with the recent event of the duping, he has promised that the V2 pets and users system should be ready before Christmas, in return, the users will keep NuP long enough for it to recover.
Again, that’s a promise that we don’t really know if it comes true.

Heyyyy i got the background info on nutrinopets … its legend/l3obby whatever u wanna call me.those know know me know i played the game fair always for years and years..i earned everything i had….i know a boatload that i shouldnt..i know who taught all those players who were banned how to duplicate…it was “laserninja” otherwise known as carl…you see carl is bug tester/hacker for nutrinopets…i hear he can do unimaginable things to the site if he wanted..so the staff i guess are trying to keep em close as possible in their little cliq…there was recently a glitch going around where players could duplicate any item in the game…i had no idea of this all till recently after being banned..cause i was recieiving mass amounts of duplicated items..without knowing what they were…also the items that were mentioned on nutrinopets..that i bought for 1 NC each from phillyboys shop..were items i bought in bulk and later purchased a junk item for 2-3 bill at a time..usually for 50 boosters..i didnt cheat to get what i had…if thats the case shouldnt everyone who got a gift from the cheaters be banned? but no..it doesnt stop there…kady and valin have always had it in for me…so basically in their minds..they have an “excuse” now to rid the site of me…i was IP banned to stop the secret of coming out that carl is responsible for all those users being banned..and of course he isnt gonna help them..cause he has and always been in it for himself…i know what type of ite,ms he has..he has almost every type of custom and retired item..i know this..cause when phillyboy wanted an item…he would go to carl..seems like some sorta black market if u wanna call it now..cause if u wanted it…CARL HAD IT! …and the only reason hes not being banned is cause…he works for them…laserninja isnt just a user..hes also one of the “invisimods” and apparently nutrinopets hacker/tester/cheater..whatever u wanna call em…take it for what it is…but nutrinopets isnt as sunny as its made out to be..alot of backstabbing bull**** going on… thats all i got to say….all my friends ive let down im sorry..but this wasnt my doing..dont think my hardwork was all bogus cause i always did the right thing on that site..i dont want a reputation as something im not…thanks..and i hope the truth comes out soon to the public.,.

I find all this greatly amusing.
You’re all guessing at what goes on, and have no real proof. Your articles have become as bad as the tabloid newpapers on the local newstand.
Presenting guesses or opinions as fact is a great way to ruin your own credibility.
Now, for a fact… We’ve found more than 3000 duplicated donation items, which of course destroyed demand or interest in donating for them. The result is Nutrinopets donations came to an inexplicable and abrupt halt, leading to this massive investigation. This number does not include the enourmous amount of duplicated rares, retired and otherwise hard to find items.
Another fact… laserninja is NOT an Invisible Moderator, nor is he some kind of hacker/bug fixer has Legend is having so much fun trumpeting around to anyone who will listen. Laserninja is still being investigated himself for duping. We do not publish names or ban people until we have indisputable proof of wrongdoing.
Yet another fact… Legend and Phillyboy would have you believe they were banned unfairly, and even had the nerve to email us asking why we had banned them, when our logs contained all the proof we needed to ban them and others. They are not the only ones being IP banned either, they’re just the ones without any sense of guilt.
And finally… We are not begging the users for anything. We are informing them of the problem and clarifying the magnitude thereof. If they choose to donate, they will, if not, then they will not. As for yet another fact, a great many of them were outraged that some users would abuse NuP to this state, and as a result are pouring money into Nutrinopets to keep it all going. This is also in response to my promise to release V2 Pet before xmas, which now is entirely possible due to my bi-polar stabilization. I am in fact nearly done with the V2 User system, which contains several functions and features that are critical to V2 Pets.
Wow..how about that for facts? I do not twist the truth, I state it clearly and do not suppose or guess.
So here’s the question I pose to those who follow me and read this sham: Do you believe the site’s owner, or some kid online who has no means at all to know what I know?

I have a theory. Call me crazy but I believe this is all just some big conspiracy designed to milk the members of Nutrinopets for all they’re worth. We have no proof that the accused are guilty of the crime. Sure, they (Ticon) claim there is proof, but will it ever be made public? And even still, such things can be fabricated.
Still, logs there may be, but I’ve heard that someone claimed that a certain invisimod/hacker shared with the accused the secret of duping. The same person who is supposedly ‘under investigation.’ Now, if this is true, wouldn’t that be the perfect catalyst for threatening the users with the closing of NuP, in order to get them to donate every last cent?

Not once has any of the staff begged for donations. In the thread you took your quotes from, it’s implied that by having users duplicating items, a great deal of money was lost, and did not ask for donations.
For those who do not know how much 1 donation token costs, it is $5.00. Multiplying that by 300 equals $1,500.00. The donation tokens could be traded for donation items, which are not available otherwise, meaning their values are very high. Since some items cost more then 1 token, and they were duplicated and given out, the site did not receive their rightful money.
Nutrinopets will not be shutting down, or be going “broke”, as we still get donations from users.
We also have extensive, detailed proof (logs) that items had suddenly appeared in mass quantities (many were very expensive in our economy) and were sold to select users for much less then what they were valued at the time.
Proof is proof; and your accusations lack facts.

I would like to highlight something pointed out by OwlManAtt in the same thread as my post. You will note that there is flawed thinking about the “loss of money”. It’s the same flawed logic the RIAA used. Giving a figure in comparison with how much is pirated doesn’t mean they lost that much money because how many of those people would have truly bought it in the first place?
Anyways, furthermore, any half-wit programmer wouldn’t have a dupe bug in any item system. I find it truly hard to screw up and have a dupe bug. I don’t see how someone can really screw up.

I find all this rumor and hype to be seriously laughable. Nutrinopets will recover financially in a month or so because the vast majority of the membership is in full and complete support of it. We don’t like cheaters, you see…so the fact that Kady and the rest of the staff IP banned those who were illegally duplicating items on the site we consider to be a GOOD thing.
From a parent’s point of view, Nutrinopets, Neopets and Gaia are all good safe site for my kids to be while online so I take the RESPONSIBLE postion of being willing to support all three in the form of real-life funding. What I don’t care for is a bunch of greak honking idiots like those irresponsible critters who first cheat the site, cheat the game, ruin the game’s economy and then have the gall to complain when they get kicked off the site.
GET A LIFE, SHUT UP YOUR WHINING ABOUT BEING IP BANNED: LIFE DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU. Kady and her staff are well within their rights as well as acting in a fair and responsible manner to protect their copyrighted materials, their patents and the rest of the Nutrinopets membership from the abuses perpetrated by those who have been CAUGHT.

My problem with this proof that what just shown, is.. how is it we know that Legend knew what was going on? Him and phillyboy were buddies… If I had friends playing on the site, I would give buddies a break all the time in prices. Just because he got a deal, doesn’t mean he knows what going on.

Omg, all this over a petsite. Legend, I honestly must admit, SOME of my opinions have changed about you and Jim. I thought you would never become anything like this, but sadly, I was disappointed. “Legend is a Noob (with no guilt)” way to be mature. NuP is not getting people to donate forcefully, he** it’s an option to people. The reason NuP even has donation is the keep the site up and as a reward, they give you items. Yes, having great things does make you happy but does cheating to get it make you feel just as good???? Not just Legend, but all of you, just move on and forget about this dreadful incident.

Fact one: You will ALWAYS get caught, when scamming and cheating or perform illegal acts of whatever kind. It may take a while, but you WILL be caught.
Fact two: When you are finally made to face the consequences of your actions, however unpleasent they may be, don’t try to put the blame on those who caught you. That’s just stupid. Instead, looking in the mirror is the best way for you to identify the real culprit. That’s right, kiddo…it’s YOUR OWN FAULT. If you hadn’t broken the rules to start with, you wouldn’t be in this position. Whatever crediblity you used to have is LONG GONE.

Considering the nature and the sheer Number of the items, I can’t see how he wouldn’t have. At the very least, common sense would have made any normal person suspicious enough to at least report it. Oh they’ve got the transaction records, it’s just that some of this may be actionable in court so of course showing certain portions of their body of proof would be unwise in this context.

That’s fairly obvious, I would think, since the act of duplicating Nup items is a violation of International Copyright Laws and that CAN result in not only jail time but a huge fine in terms of real cash.
Better you than me though, when I consider some of the things I’ve heard about jails in Mexico…but that’s your own fault, kid. You did it to yourself.

Some people actually figure out that there’s such a thing as copy and pasting, I’ve done it before in trading 85 items to one user. It’s easy if you don’t type the name over and over agian.

True. Then too, there’s the addtional question of whether both usernames belong to the same person…scams on that level generally do. Just look at the Bank scam on Neo last June! There were several accounts involved, but most of them turned out to belong to the same scammer.

You think that just because NuP needs money, you have to go and make a whole stupid board about it. Let me tell you. It’s a waste of time, and a waste of space on this website. NuP does need the money to keep Nutrinopets up. What if they are like my family and they can’t afford even the simplest loaf of bread at Aldi? Get a clue, retard. Nup does need the money to survive. People don’t HAVE to donate to it if they don’t want to. Like me, for example. I have a gold account, but someone donated for me. I don’t have the money to donate for myself. So I asked someone who is more than willing to donate to NuP for me to get my specail account.

Unlikely. What’s much more likely is that they are using a high tech data retrieval program to gather every scrap of information about the transactions that can be gathered, in order to take the responsible parties to court if they decide to do so.
That’s what I’d do, anyway, if it were my company.

You’re kidding me right? You are all sitting around debating on whether or not these people did what they did and whether or not NuP is telling the truth in the matter? It all comes down to this. Some people who thought they were smart, decided to try duping some items. They succeeded, but were caught in the long run. Partially due to their stupidity in duping so many of highly expensive items on the site, and partially due to their stupidity in talking about it through Nmail. You got caught. You OBVIOUSLY weren’t as bad ass as you thought you were. Get over yourselves, and move on to another site that you might have a better chance with. Instead of trying to turn everyone else against the site, simply move on to something better. Do you seriously know how many people on Neopets that were banned from it for whatever reason and tried to point fingers at TNT and make them sound so horrible? How many of those people have succeeded in turning everyone else against the site? None. So trying to do the same with Nutrino is not going to work. You screwed up, you got caught. Find some other pixels to steal.
People will continue to donate to and play the site if they want. Nothing you try to convince anyone of is going to work. Get over yourselves already.

Hopeucroak, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Isn’t society’s dependance on money quite enthralling? What if there was a world in which there was no money? What would happen then? How many less crooked, lying, greedy and selfish indivuduals would there be then? I swear. This crap’s got us all corrupted in one way or another. Money needs to be abolished from this planet. That way we can find success through our own enlightenment; not others’.
First of all, I’d like to say something rather plainly here. I am NOT taking sides on this drama, because all it seems to be is a bunch of irrationally backed-up bulls*it, lies and rumors flung from both sides on a catapult. Becauase quite frankly, I have better things to do than cry over someone’s losses and assets.
I am going to be just as willing to accept NuP’s proof as I am from anybody else. It has been said before and I’ll say it again: There will never be FULL proof on the situation unless NuP staff AND banned users (Which is unlikely) decide to disclose said proof to the general public. But then again, proof is proof. Proof brings drama because one side will always deny and won’t agree with it, especially if they’re the ones responsible for the wrongdoing. It seems that defiance is our best weapon.
You know…I tried to read as many posts as I could in this Journal, but they got too ridiculous and nerve-wracking for me to stand no longer: That’s why I’m throwing in my copper.
While I don’t support Legend, Phillyboy, and the many others for their inflicted harm towards Nutrinopets, I am also disgusted by some of the supporter’s comments and remarks. I find it hilarious that NuP supporters can insult and not get blamed for it. (Not saying others haven’t threw in insults, but I realized this) You know? While insults can’t compare to lost revenue, I still don’t think that stirring the pot even more than it has been helps. Granted, issues like this raise a LOT of anger, but truly think before you act. That is a Kindergarten moral we can ALL benefit from.
IN YOO FACE, I would like to tell you very nicely to grow up. Just because you are on the Pro side doesn’t mean you can spit, when clearly ALL proof hasn’t been disclosed from BOTH sides. Otherwise, if there was proof, the case would be settled and the only drama that’d remain would be from those who are defiant and wish to deny truth. Clearly, the duping of items was unheard of, but your REPEATED taunting isn’t showing the side you’re standing for (That would NuP) in a good light. You want to know what THAT shows me? That maybe I should reconsider when I go to log onto my NuP account (Which is 2+ years, if anyone thinks I’m exaggerating). I don’t want to contribute my time to a site in which it’s community lacks maturity. You’re acting like a total 5-year-old. You’re stooping just as low as Legend and Phillyboy, which must honestly be disheartening to the staff who you are (in a very failed attempt) trying to stand up for. Your silly, almost redundant messages have been getting on my very last nerve. If you want to show a bit of logic, I’d suggest you stop your childish mocking and back up your evidence with a bit more rationality. Saying that “LEGEND IS A LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSEEEEERRRRRRR”, for example, is a DIRECT example of your seeming lack of logic in the situation. I think I have proven my point.
And for the people who decided to dupe and bring harm to the community, shame on you.
I think most of you should revise Gamer.Saga’s post. (About the lack of logic part)
