Marapets is down
Have you tried to access Marapets tonight? Well, Marapets has been down for the past few hours. If you try ping all their http servers, it says that it has timed out. Looks like the servers decided to go down. Do you guys know why Marapets went down?
If you own such a big site with so many servers, you would figure they would have some sort of server monitoring service to bring their servers back online.
Lets hope their hard drives failed and Ian has no backups.

Well here it goes, they must be lying. They claim to have 50 servers, and a oracle rack. Now here is the theory about oracle database racks.
They are load balanced systems, each is written to at the same time. So when each database conneciton is made, it selects a node to connect to. Now, if one node goes down, it goes to the next one. Henceforth, unless it is in a shitty datacenter, which oracle servers wouldn’t be as they need to be monitored, they should have no downtime.
As for the 50 servers… Come on, what is the point. They have what 3-6,000 members online, tops. Unless its terribly coded, I would reccomend the following setup.
1) Load Balancer
2) 4* Quad AMD FX w/ 8GB DDR2 Dual Channel & Raid 1+0 SAS
- 2 w/ Apache & PHP (HTTP)
- 1 w/ Apache (Images)
- 1 w/ Memcached & Log Dump
3) 2* Quad AMD FX w/ 12GB DDR2 Dual Channel & Raid 1+0 SAS (1TB Each)
- 1 Database Server (Users, Clubs, Forums, Messages, Etcetera)
- 1 Database Server (Rest of tables)
4) 1* Pentium 4 3.0GhZ w/ 2GB DDR2 Dual Channel & Raid 1+0 SAS
- Apache & Nagios Monitor
- VPN for Secure Transport and Connection to the other servers
That would be a perfect server setup, and would handle up to 30,000-50,000 online if optimized properlly. Come on guys, you can tell us the truth..

I just logged into my Marapets account now to see if I could get in just to see if there is any downtime today. I don’t know aboug lag as I havent done anything but log in so far. The main issue I have with Marapets is all of their art is very poorly done and it looks like art done by a 5-year-old child. I realize ALL art cant be highly detailel and well done but I feel like I’m in a preschool class where the kids are showing me their art projects and all I can say is “Thats fine, your making progress”. I like all different types of art being an amateur artist myself my entire life, but its always been a way TOO simple when it comes to Marapets for me. Why do I have an account there then? Because I simply enjoying internet games, especially the entire concept of virtual pets and I always have and I will the rest of the my life and I feel more virtual pet sites will be online for years to come and that they will just continue to get better with time and development. Its hard to find quality free entertainment online so I choose to play internet games and I like ones where I don’t always need to download anything.
